Public Power Week

September 30

Did you know that you live in a public power community? The Village of Lakeview has owned and operated a municipal electric system since 1912. This is something we are proud of – it's an aspect of our community that provides benefits to all residents and businesses.

Our primary focus is providing electric service in a reliable and affordable manner. We are not driven by a profit motive, and our lineworkers and other employees are our neighbors. This gives Lakeview a strategic advantage, helps improve the quality of life and is beneficial to our business environment.

Public power communities have a strong track record of reliable service, diversification of energy portfolios, long-term planning, economic development and local decision-making.

Public Power Week is a nationally celebrated event and will take place this year October 2nd through October 8th. Established by the American Public Power Association and its members in 1986, Public Power Week celebrates the importance of public power. Lakeview is one of more than 2,000 public power systems across the country.

The hallmark of public power is that the utility is locally owned and locally controlled. Decisions regarding rates, operations and long-term planning are made by locally elected officials, at public meetings, with opportunities for input from customers. This is what separates a municipal electric system from other electric suppliers and it's a valuable aspect of public power.

Our team is dedicated to our residents and businesses, and we hope that you will take a few moments this October to celebrate with us.
